Love Tom Otterness! I too stumbled upon his sculptures while on a walk once where I live in Minneapolis. The big "Rockman" isn't there anymore but the smaller sculptures still are and I was delighted. I even have a framed photo of these little cuties in my home: http://www.tomotterness.net/artworks/rockman?view=slider#2
My cardinal rule these days is “get out of the house and talk to someone.” Of course that means walking, because you don’t meet other people if you’re in a vehicle. I think what you wrote about here is more common than most of us think because we’re all a little starved for human contact, after so many months of limited interactions. And yes, we’re even willing to cut a little slack when things are slightly off kilter.
As for the sculptures—I discovered them about a year ago and immediately fell in love with them. 🙂
These essays keep bringing up memories from when I first moved to NYC in 2007. I guess back then was when I did most of my exploring. This essay because at my first job I commuted via the 8th avenue L stop, which has Otterness sculptures all over.
Isaac, your Walk It Off essays are delightful and I have enjoyed every single one, thank you!

These little sculptures are almost enough for me to plan a trip back to NYC sometime soon!
