Friday Flowers #1
A few links to things I enjoyed this week, that I think you might enjoy, too. Plus some pictures of pretty flowers.
“Since Musk took over he has set about dismantling everything that made Twitter valuable—making it his mission to drive out expertise, scare away celebrities, bully reporters and—on the flip side—reward the bad actors, spammers and sycophants who thrive in the opposite environment: An information vacuum.”
—Natasha Lomas, “Twitter Is Dying”
As Twitter continues to crumble, I’m determined to start experimenting with Walk It Off in new and exciting ways.
One thing I love about Twitter is sharing links to articles, essays, podcasts, videos, and other projects that I enjoy. With Twitter becoming a less gratifying place to spend time, though, I’ve decided to start doing that very same thing right here on Substack.
I’m calling it Friday Flowers. Firstly, because I love highlighting other people’s work—thus giving them their flowers—and secondly, because I like taking photos of pretty flowers, so I figure I’ll throw a few of those in as well.
That said, this is all experimental! If receiving these links every Friday feels more like a hindrance to you than something that makes you happy, let me know in the comments! Or, if you’d prefer, just say hi. Or, even better, let me know about something you adored reading or watching or listening to this week. I always love hearing from Walk It Off community members.
Well, that about sums it up. Without further ado, along with Natasha's piece linked to above, here are some things I enjoyed this week:
Jayson Greene wrote a beautiful, moving piece about musician Elliott Smith’s early years and music.
Comedian—and former Walk It Off participant—Josh Gondelman got some good jokes off while ranking celebs in regards to their Boston-ness.
Jason Diamond hung out in the Lower East Side with actress Amy Irving and it’s delightful.
Maris Kreizman had a marvelous discussion with Nicole Chung about Nicole’s new memoir—A Living Remedy—as well as anxiety and how much dogs rule.
Andrew McCarthy wrote a lovely lil’ ode to walking.
Also, while we’re here, I was on the Today Show this week recommending books alongside author Qian Julie Wang, and I took a walk with James Hannaham that you don’t want to miss.
Ok, that’s it for this week’s Friday Flowers. Hope y’all have a great weekend, and don’t forget to get out into the world and move at a human pace. 🍓
Friday Flowers is a wonderful idea, and the James Hannaham interview is an essential and extremely enjoyable read.
Really dig the Friday Flowers, Isaac.
I've been enjoying Weyward, by Emilia Hart recently.
